7 Ways to Save Money
on Healthy Foods

Shopping can be exciting or exhaustive depending on the list to buy. Planning grocery shopping has proved to be more beneficial than blindly putting items in your cart. Recently I planned to change my diet to healthy eating and found some hacks to save money on healthy foods. Here is a list of those hacks so that you too can start eating healthy food without burning a hole in your pocket.

Healthy eating with a reasonable spending

  1. Question your diet first

Question everything before you set foot to buy stuff. What food do you want to include in your diet and what you must skip? How different will your new diet be from the previous one? Questioning your diet plan and phasing items as per your routine will give you clarity on things you need to purchase. A proper list of food items allows you to buy as per the plan without getting diverted.

Tweak your lifestyle for better health
  1. Don’t be swayed away by discounts

Quite often, we are not mindful of the food quantities we have come to purchase due to discounts and exciting offers. I cannot even recall the number of times I have bought items (based on offers like “Buy 3, get 1 free” or “60% off” or “Limited offer”) and wasted them later. Do not be fooled by marketing gimmicks; calculate the quantity you need before you step out for shopping healthy food items.

  1. Say no to cold food

As you decide to stay on a budget, remember that the way to eat healthily is to reduce your consumption of cold food. Yoga Shastra lays down the types of food and their effect on our body and mind. Additionally, understand that fresh food is a million times better than frozen food. However, if your time does not permit you to cook your food daily, restrict the frequency of eating cold or old food to at most three days.

  1. Don’t go hungry to shop

Eating healthy on a budget requires you to not go hungry for grocery shopping. Take a handful of nuts or fruit before you shop. When you are hungry, you are inclined to purchase food that is not needed or healthy. Hunger pangs attract us to instant foods/fried foods and if you want to save money on food, plan your purchase.

  1. Say yes to whole foods

One of the healthy eating habits includes consuming your fruits and veggies fresh. Even when you have a busy schedule, phase out your time and plan your food throughout the day and fill your breaks with little preparation. Instead of buying pre-cut fruits and veggies, buy whole food items in bulk to get them at a lower rate. Fill your diet with rice, oats, legumes, etc. Also, a home-cooked meal is far more reasonable and satisfying than outside food.

  1. Don’t be brand conscious

While you must always scan your food items for proper safety standards, buying locally produced items or from common brands is quite cheaper than from specific brands. Read through the labels, if any, talk to the people about reviews and be sure of the quality before you proceed with them. Eating budget food does not mean you have to compromise on quality or eating, it only means planning and researching better about your food routine and items.

  1. Keep an eye on sales

While discounts may mean you shop a bit more than what you need, do keep an eye out for promotional offers from brands. Festivals and brand promotions are great opportunities to stock your healthy food items for a while. Again, buy a few months ahead and not for a very long time to avoid wastage due to expiry.

Healthy mind to a healthy body

Diet is a crucial part of living healthy and the article tips you on some ways to save money on healthy foods. However, another aspect of a healthy body is a healthy mind that is fueled by yoga, meditation, and proper rest. Yoga keeps you active throughout the day, relieves stress, and prevents stiffness in the body. Meditation increases your awareness and calms you down. Abundant rest refreshes you and helps build your immunity. Self-discipline can bring a vast difference in your lifestyle. Eating healthy on a budget can be done with self-discipline. The right knowledge enables you to make food choices that are healthy and economical.
