What do happy people do that unhappy people don’t?

We see many kinds of people in our lives - some happy, others not so. Since happiness is subjective, the same things don’t make everyone happy. After all, one man’s meat is another man’s poison.

However, while the causes of happiness are variable, there are some attributes that happy people share. Here are 10 common traits of happy people.

1.Live in the moment

Happiness is being in the present moment. Happy people enjoy every moment of their lives. Each and every second is important to them, as they are fully aware of the fact that a second lost can never be recovered. Hence, they spend their life in the present. This is also called “mindfulness”. Happy people practice mindfulness every day of their lives.

2. Admire everything

Happy people have this wonderful habit of admiring everything around them - nature, people, and things, no matter how small they might be. It creates a positive mind-set, which, in turn, acts as a foundation for happiness.

3. Practice gratitude

Happy people are always grateful for what they have. They focus on the good things they possess, rather than what they lack. Practicing gratitude, or being grateful, immediately after waking up in the morning, and before going to bed at night is a good recipe for happiness.

4. Understand and forgive

Happy people always have the ability to understand people and their situations. Even if someone hurts them, they forgive them. This helps them acquire good karma; it also erases their bad karma. This adds to their peace of mind and happiness.

5. Show compassion and love

Happy people show compassion and love towards both living things and nature. Moreover, they surround themselves with people who love them, and bond with them readily and easily. This creates a positive atmosphere around them, allowing happiness to seep into them from all around!

6. Possess self-confidence

Happy people are confident about themselves and their actions. As they engage in different activities without second-guessing themselves, it leads to more positive outcomes in their life. Inevitably, this results in happiness.

7. Think creatively

Happy people are creative and like to reinvent themselves regularly. They think, and try to improvise and innovate in every aspect of their life. This helps keep their mind fresh and young, preventing age-related degenerative changes in the brain. So, creativity promotes happiness in life. Try and see for yourself!

8.  Live with balance

When there is a balance between work and family life, every aspect of the personality gets adequate nourishment. One side helps sustain the other. Happy people ensure that they spend quality time with their family members; this spurs the inner fire to perform in their professional life. Similarly, when they feel fulfilled at work, they try to be better people at home as well. This is the foundation for happiness and prosperity.

9. Engage in service

Happiness comes from giving back to society. While charity may be monetary, the donation of time can make us feel even better. Happy people engage in selfless service to others, understanding that the chance to help others is a reward in itself.

10. Pray and meditate regularly

Prayer and meditation help in getting in touch with the self and the Divine. The immense happiness felt during these moments is best experienced. These are powerful tools that help in preventing negativity from creeping into our lives. Happy people devote some time in their day towards prayer and meditation to stay in touch with themselves.
