How yoga helped me during
the COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has become a major cause of stress in my small, beautiful world. Lack of proper sleep and a stressful life had led to a weakened immune system and vulnerability to sickness. Due to the global lockdown, my employment and economic climate had also been affected. It had generated stress among the members of my family too. Including when securing daily essential items. It is widely established that elderly people affected by diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic diseases are prone to COVID-19.

In the month of April 2020, I found out that AOL is conducting an Online Happiness Program along with yoga classes. I joined online classes and till date am continuing daily sadhanas along with the 7-day Surya Namaskar Challenge for International Yoga Day, 2021.

Benefits of yoga in my life

  1. Mind, body & soul: Yoga helps us build a strong physical, mental, and spiritual health system. When combined with breathing and meditation, it is the best practice  to take care of our mind, body, and soul. India’s traditional system of yoga has been established as a means to boost immunity and improve overall health and well-being. There are different forms of yoga that can help us stay physically strong and mentally balanced.
  2. Outer beauty: A consistent yoga practice, along with certain poses in particular, has proven that yoga can bring beauty and glow to our face better than expensive cosmetics. I have always said that a strong immune system, good health, and beauty are complementary to each other. Unless you are healthy from the inside, you cannot reflect true beauty. For flawless skin, and shiny hair, good health and fitness must be on the top of your list.

Yoga is very relevant and important in today’s world especially in the context of our fast-paced modern lifestyle - for both health and beauty. Personally, it has been a part of my life and I have experienced its numerous benefits.
