Why is parenting education
important?

Imagine driving your car zig-zag on the road when traffic police stop you to ask for your driving license. Either you show or don’t. Can you imagine a cop asking you for a parenting education certificate, when he finds your grown-up child misbehaving on the streets? What will be your reply? “No, never, what is the need?” may be your answer to the cop.

When we know that parenting a child is the most challenging responsibility under the sky, why do we not give importance to parenting education? In today’s context, tech drives everything you ask for but in the world of working parents, nuclear families, single parenting and co-parenting, parents miss the sincere and experienced advice of their wise parents (grandparents). Wherever emotions are attached, hand-holding is always welcome. This hand-holding is nothing but parenting education.

A formative study conducted by UNICEF highlights that children must have healthy relationships with their parents if they are to develop to their fullest potential. Relationships should provide them stability, consistency, affection and responsiveness. They must also get protection from harm and support for the growth of new skills and capabilities. Parental relationships also buffer children against social and behavioral problems.

Primary habits in a child form by the age of ten. Isn’t it better that parents become well-versed in “parenting” and only then plan a baby?

Parenting the angels -2.” Extract of a talk by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar explaining extrovert and introvert children and their tendencies.

Some families need only the basics of parenting skills and access to community resources to do well. Other families are already overburdened by poverty, lack of education and employment, homelessness, physical or cognitive limitations, domestic violence, mental health problems, or drug and alcohol abuse. These families need more intense and targeted education and support to keep their children safe and thriving.

“Children embody all that we cherish: innocence, forgiveness, friendliness, joy, caring & sharing, creativity & unconditional love. You have nothing to teach children, but rather learn from them.” - Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

“Behind every young child who believes in himself is a parent who believed first.” — Matthew L. Jacobson has been in the book publishing industry for 22 years and is currently the President of Loyal Arts Literary Agency.

Akanksha shares her experience, “The Know your teen workshop was a real eye-opener for me. You have not left any questions unanswered. I have registered my husband for it too. Actually, if both parents do it together, they will be on the same pitch.”

Some parenting styles are more effective than others depending on the temperament of the parent and child. Before you adopt your parenting style, it is better to know your child/teen.
