11 meaningful quotes
on mothers

Some days, I get motherhood hiccups with a 2-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter who keep me boiling and chilling all day! On gloomy days, we can praise ourselves for being good mothers. I assure all mothers, that no matter how bad we think we're messing up, our kids love us! Need a few quotes to reinforce this thought? Same here! Enjoy eleven meaningful parenting quotes on mothers by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

“Motherhood is wanting the best for others and not expecting anything in return.”

Every mother wants the best for her kids. She starts loving her children even before they come into this world. A mother's love for her children is so pure. Kids need to recognize and appreciate this.

“As mothers, as much as they do, they still feel they have not done enough for their children is an instinct.”

This is a sign of mothers’ love for their children. In love, one never feels, “Oh! I have done enough.” The more you do for children, the more you feel that you could have done so much more. Let not this sign of love disappear. The feeling that you have done enough means you are stressed out. Know that you need to relax. Meditate and be stress-free.

“As mothers, you can make children feel proud of doing (or giving) something for others.”

This is one of my favorite quotes among many ‘proud mother quotes’. Children are naturally gifted with the sharing tendency. Your kid will run to their grandmother with enthusiasm when you tell them, “Go, give this flower to grandma.” Suddenly, they have an achievement feeling and run back to you, “I gave it!” Instill the quality of sharing in them when they are young. They get a sense of participation in life rather than just playing around.

“Mothers are firm in their decisions and yet loving to their children.”

Mothers are seen as strong individuals by their children when they adhere to their decisions. Children look up to their mothers as idols. Don’t be apologetic in the eyes of your children. It makes them arrogant as they unknowingly demand apologies from others on growing up. Become a role model for them.

“The word ‘Mother’ means good. There are no bad mothers in the world.”

By labelling yourself as a bad mother, you put thorns in your being. Mother takes good care of their children. She teaches her child to live life to the fullest. She is always there for her kids in their needs. A mother can never be bad.

“Mothers are important in the child’s holistic development when it comes to protecting them from negative qualities of the environment.”

I have come across many strong mother quotes, but we can all relate to this quote as there is motherhood in each one of us. Just like a bud has all the attributes to be a flower, kids already have the necessary qualities in them to blossom into good human beings. We don't need to infuse them with positive values. The mothers however need to protect their kids from picking up the negative traits of the environment like violence, aggression and foul language.

“If mothers bring up their children without scolding them, they become weak.”

When children grow up without scoldings, they cannot take criticism. Your scoldings make them stronger individuals. When children grow up, they should be capable of taking on challenges. You should not feel guilty about occasionally scolding your children. Scoldings are like vaccinations for the future. You can make kids take all sorts of criticisms with a smile knowing that there is always a chance for them to improve.

“Love is your nature. What is your nature cannot change.”

The expression of love may change in a mother, but loving her child is her innate nature, and she cannot but love her children. Sometimes she feeds them and other times she scolds them: “Come on, sit and write!”And sometimes she may even beat them. She does this out of love, and these are all different modes of love. So, the expression of love may change, but love itself does not change.

“A mother is the first teacher in her child’s life. You can sow the seed of prayer in your child’s lives.”

Gurudev advises mothers to sow the seed of prayer at a young age. At times of stress in the future, prayer will help them not lose hope and have self-confidence. Their inner voice will then guide them. Even though your kids may sometimes be unwilling to participate in prayers at home, the value of prayer inculcated in them will help them when they grow into mature adults.

“Mother is the first connection for you to this manifest world.”

The mother-child bonding starts happening even before the child is born. You are the first teacher in your child’s life. The qualities you nurture in them remain lifelong. You are the medium through which they understand different aspects of life. This connection needs to be trustworthy and transparent.

“Take it for granted that your children love you too and accept their style of expression.”

Mothers need not worry about the love their kids have for them. Styles of expressing love differ from one kid to the other. For example, a mother has three kids. One child talks a lot, another child does not so much, and the third one throws tantrums. Mothers' love should be the same irrespective of their behavior and styles.
