SSGMDA Committed to Making Nagpur Healthier

Nagpur Maharashtra: Sri Sri Globally Meditating Doctors’ Association conducted a medical and health checkup camp at Kinhhi village near Nagpur on April 5, 2015. This was yet another step towards the mission of making the rural areas and slums of Nagpur healthy, said Dr. Manjusha Hatwar, coordinator of Nagpur SSGMDA (Globally Meditating Doctors Association).

Mukul Chimote project coordinator 'Mazi Vena Mazi Ganga' (a river rejuvenation project by art of living in Maharashtra) organised the programme and brought SSGDMA and Mahatma Eye Bank and Eye Hospital together at Sant Gamte Maharaj Temple, Kinhi, where the camp was organised. Ophthalmologists Dr. Arvind Dongarwar and Dr. Zade also offered their services.

Nearly 180 patients were benefitted from this free check-up. Out of them, 35 had cataract, and five patients underwent free operation and treatment. The team of doctors provided 100 spectacles to needy patients. Dr. Manjusha said the association has been active in Nagpur for the past 4 years, “We have been conducting one camp every month without fail for the past four years in and around Nagpur, especially in the slums. Till now, more than 1000 needy patients have benefitted from this. The association, in collaboration with other organizations, is working towards promoting the general health of the society.

Dr. Manjusha said apart from creating health awareness, conducting free surgeries and medical check-up, and distributing free medicines, the association organised meditation programmes for doctors and hospital staff across the city. “Due to long working hours, they also accumulate stress.” GMDA conducts several meditation sessions for medical professionals, which has helped most of them to overcome stress, she said.
