Indian spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar this weekend welcomed artists from around the world to his cultural event on the banks of New Delhi’s Yamuna river.

The “World Cultural Festival” was held on a more than 1,000 acre plot and came under scrutiny after environmentalists complained the scale of the event could damage the floodplains of the river.

But late last week, the event to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Mr. Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living Foundation, got the green light to go ahead.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the event and tweeted his support for Mr. Shankar.
