Stress Relieving
Yoga for Women

Of the two sexes that God has made, men and women, greater responsibility lies on the women in a family.  Be it a home maker or a working woman with children and a family to take care, women can be referred to as the “backbone” of a family that keeps the household running smoothly and efficiently like a well-oiled machine. It is not rare to come across a collapsed home with neglected children, elderly, and cleanliness going for a toss when the woman has been travelling or not been around!

The responsibility of running the household, taking care of children and the elderly, managing groceries, and juggling a career takes a tremendous toll on women. From trying to be the supermom that media and films portray, or being a great career woman (if she has a job), or trying to look attractive, or being a great spouse, daughter-in-law, daughter or a great girlfriend, the list is endless and the pressure keeps mounting for a woman.

Stressful lifestyles and attempting to make a mark is nowadays putting many women under stress and eventually leading them into depression. Let us address these challenges and see what women can do to pull themselves out from nerve-racking depression and emotional tantrums!

Yogic Meditation

Yogic meditation might sound like a big word. However, it’s a simple method to connect with oneself to become calmer and more peaceful. A calmer individual is tremendously efficient, good at her job, excellent at being a homemaker, attractive, reliable and dependable! Regular meditation sessions of at least 15 minutes each will enable a woman to “let go” of all her tensions, social expectations and brings immense emotional strength.

Women today are often confronted with challenges in relationships and professional front that puts a lot of pressure on them. Meditation centers women- they stop reacting and rather respond. It also helps them be aware of all the repercussions of negative thoughts, actions and speech!

Simple yogic meditation asanas such as Padmasana and Vajrasana coupled with meditative breathing is of tremendous help.

Surya Namaskar and fitness

Stress in women is also found to be a result of an unhealthy mind and body. When a woman is unwell or in a bad mood, she would take it out on her family. This eventually creates conflict and tension in a household. A practice of Surya Namaskar helps bring the mind into a relaxed state. A complete Surya Namaskar cycle should be done for at least 10-15 minutes to garner maximum benefit. All the asanas in this technique should be practiced slowly and each posture should be held for at least 10-15 inhalations focusing on breathing and the stretches.

Women leading hectic lives with careers, homes, children and elderly to take care, should realize that to make most of life and live it fully, it is essential to have “me-time” where they can attend to their spiritual and physical welfare. Yoga aids in a holistic approach to physical well-being and connects the self to its source.

Yoga practice helps develop the body and mind bringing a lot of health benefits yet is not a substitute for medicine. It is important to learn and practice yoga postures under the supervision of a trained Sri Sri Yoga teacher. In case of any medical condition, practice yoga postures after consulting a doctor and a Sri Sri Yoga teacher. Find a Sri Sri Yoga program at an Art of Living Center near you.
